The NEBOSH National General Certificate has been offered since 1989.
Nearly 100,000 people have achieved the Certificate, making it the most
widely held health and safety qualification in the UK. Particularly
suitable for supervisors, managers and safety representatives, the
NEBOSH Certificate provides a broad understanding of health and safety
issues equipping holders to contribute to more effective management of
workplace risk.

Many people choose to take the NEBOSH Certificate as a first
step in a career in health and safety. The overview of safety management issues provides a sound basis for more specialist study (such as the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health) or further professional study (such as the NEBOSH National Diploma). |
On successful completion of the qualification, a Certificate holder with five years experience in a Health and Safety role may apply for Technician membership (Tech IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the major UK professional body in the field ( www.iosh.co.uk ). The Certificate also satisfies the eligibility requirements for Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management ( www.iirsm.org ).
| The National General Certificate is accredited by the Qualifications and
Curriculum Authority (QCA) at level 3 in the National Qualifications
Framework, and continues to attract public funding. The qualification is known by QCA as the NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and this title will be shown on the qualification certificates. |

The NEBOSH National Certificate Course has been run as an evening course
in Cornwall by Dr Ed Ferrett and Mr John Tremelling for the past 17
years. Many company safety officers working in Cornwall and throughout the Southwest started their safety careers by undertaking this very successful evening class. Lecturers on the course have a wide variety of working experience either as Safety Practitioners of Health and Safety Inspectors. End of year results have been some of the best throughout the country. |
This year’s NEBOSH National Certificate starts on Tuesday the 13th of October 17:00 to 20:00 and runs every Tuesday throughout the year (with breaks for Christmas and Easter) until the national examinations in June 2010.
