John is a former Health and Safety Inspector working for many years both in the West Midlands and Cornwall. Since his return to Cornwall in 1992 John has developed a reputation as an expert in both health and safety enforcement and management.
He was appointed as Penwith District Council’s Safety Advisor and given responsibility to change hearts and minds to ensure Penwith became established as an health and safety exemplar in line with the government’s Revitalising Health and Safety Strategy. It was during this time as Head of Health, Safety, Transport and Environmental Enforcement John served as Chairman for two years for the South West Regional Assembly Safety Advisory Group. The group’s main aim is to develop local authority standards and guidance in consultation with relevant enforcing bodies and agencies. For many years during this time he also served as the Chairman of the Local Authorities Cornwall Safety Advisors Group.
For 12 years John has in the past lectured at Cornwall Business School on health and safety law and practice and was the Course Manager for the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety at Penhaligon House, Pool. Many practising safety officers in Cornwall have been trained and advised by John during this time.
Now as a Chartered Practitioner in Occupational Health and Safety and a qualified teacher John’s main aim is to help educate and empower others to manage their risks to the highest possible standard to ensure the safety of all who either work with or come into contact with their work activities.
As well as being the head of the organisation, he is also the Regulation 7 Officer for the purposes of health and safety management.
